It’s a relief that the BAN on bulk SMS in India is revoked today with immediate effect.The so called ban on bulk SMS to stop spreading rumors was actually planned to revoke on Friday but the cry of youth made the government to revoke the ban.
The Home ministry of India said in a statement that ,”Ban on bulk SMSes and MMSes withdrawn with immediate effect“ .
The SMS ban came into action when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that spreading of rumours by miscreants had led to Indians belonging to the Northeast fleeing from Bangalore, Pune and some other parts of the India.
Prime Minister had said that at stake was not just unity and integrity of the country, but also communal harmony. “Any miscreant fanning rumours should be brought to book”
Recently, the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) stated,” the ban on bulk SMSes should be immediately lifted as it is affecting the business of many firms, mainly small and medium enterprises.”
